In a remarkable achievement at Fortis Healthcare, Noida, a team of doctors led by Dr Anjana Singh, Director & HOD, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, successfully performed a complex uterine surgery using advanced robotic technology. The team expertly removed a 2.2kg non-cancerous tumour - about the size of a watermelon - with the precision that only robotic-assisted surgery can provide. This approach not only minimised risks but also ensured a faster recovery, with the patient discharged just two days after the procedure. Dr. Singh emphasised the critical importance of timely intervention, nothing that the tumour's continued growth could have led to severe complications. As a pivotal step forward to offering our patients value-based care, we are pleased to launch our Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur (PHKL). OPAT is a transformative approach that allows stable patients requiring intravenous antimicrobial therapy to receive treatment as outpatients, eliminating the need for lengthy hospital stays. This service not only speeds up recovery but also enhances the overall quality of care. The impact is significant: average hospital stays have been reduced from 18 days to just 5, and healthcare costs have decreased by 10%-15%. Additionally, OPAT also plays a crucial role in our antimicrobial stewardship, ensuring responsible antibiotic use. Dr. Anusha Shunmugarajoo, Infectious Diseases Consultant at PHKL, highlighted that OPAT has led to better outcomes, including fewer hospital-acquired infections. Each patient is carefully assessed to ensure they receive safe, effective, and personalised treatment. In another showcase of medical excellence, our team at Acıbadem Üniversitesi Atakent Hospital Organ Transplant Center recently performed a life-saving liver transplant for Ekrem Yener, a 65-year-old father who was battling advanced liver cancer. Ekrem’s son, Efe, was a compatible donor but he faced a significant challenge - he needed to lose 20kg to qualify for surgery. With his father’s life on the line, Efe embarked on an intense weight loss journey, determined to meet the medical requirements and give his father a second chance at life. Thanks to the expertise of General Surgery Specialist, Prof. Dr. Hamdi Karakayali and his team, the transplant was a success, and both father and son are now on the road to recovery. At IHH Healthcare, we are continually inspired by stories of hope and determination. Ekrem and Efe’s courageous journey reminds us of the power of love, sacrifice and hope.
