🏗️ICE HKA technical visit: Central Kowloon Route – Yau Ma Tei East🚧 The entire Central Kowloon Route project, comprising of six sections linking the east and west of Kowloon, serves as an alternative express route. The site visit to the Yau Ma Tei East section of Central Kowloon Route was successfully held on 13 July 2024. During the visit, the Supervising Officer of the project first provided a comprehensive overview of the project and a detailed presentation on the construction methods and challenges specific to the Yau Ma Tei East section. One of the sharings that impressed the participants a lot was the considerable phrase arrangement of the Reprovision of Gascoigne Road Flyover. For example, the demolition works of the existing Yau Ma Tei Carpark Building would be carried out in two stages to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow throughout the construction period despite the fact that the flyover passes through the Building. Besides, the eastbound of the flyover would be constructed prior to westbound to accommodate the programme of the cut-and-cover tunnel below. An interactive discussion in the Q&A session among the participants and the Supervisor Officer was also held.💡👷🏽♂️ A field trip was then followed for the participants to see the overview of the construction site at different locations, such as the noise enclosure at Ching Ping Street, reprovision of Gascoigne Flyover and construction of Cut-and-Cover Tunnel. ICE JLA Technical Meeting 6:00 pm (GMT+7), Thursday, 18 July 2024 Reinforced Soil Slopes – Experience from China Synopsis Reinforced soil slopes are a form of reinforced soil structure with a facing angle generally less than 70° to the horizontal, typically with a vegetated surface finish. This presentation will summarize the experience from China over the past 21 years, covering applications in highways, mining, landfill, water supply, and slip repair. The presentation will delve into construction techniques, materials used, and the benefits of using site-won soil. It will also cover considerations for seismic acceleration in design and will be illustrated with case studies, including the reinforced soil slopes used in the Jingcheng Expressway near Beijing.
