While in Shanghai, I was invited by MayCham Shanghai to deliver a speech at the ‘Malaysia-China Business Forum 2023’. MayCham or also known as the Malaysian Chamber is the business association set up by Malaysian business leaders in China. There are several MayCham chapters in China, namely in MayCham Beijing, Shanghai, Greater Bay Area (GBA), Kunming and Xi’an. MayCham Shanghai invited me to share some insights on the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP 2030) launched by the Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia on 1 September 2023. NIIMP 2030 is MITI’s industrial policy which provides the national strategic direction for Malaysia’s industrial development until 2030. The NIMP 2030 calls for RM95 billion worth of total investments and it is expected to create 3.3 million job opportunities through the creation of high-skilled jobs. Two new funds will be set up, namely the NIMP Industrial Development Fund (NIDF) and the NIMP Strategic Co-Investment Fund (Co-SIF). NIDF is a Government funding for industrial development that covers activities like technology adoption, infrastructure development and talent, whereas Co-SIF is a part-fund between Government and private sector funding. The implementation of NIMP 2030 for the next 7 years will be predominantly funded from the private sector i.e. from private equity, capital and financial markets. In this regard, I welcomed business leaders from China to explore the opportunities in NIMP and invest in high-impact sectors in Malaysia such as the Electrical & Electronics (E&E), chemicals, electric vehicle (EV), aerospace, pharmaceuticals and advanced materials such as minerals. At the same business forum, my colleagues Mr. Steven from MIDA Shanghai and Mr. Damian from MATRADE Shanghai also shared the investment and trade opportunities in Malaysia. #MITI #NIMP2030 #MIDA #MATRADE #Malaysia #china #MayCham #shanghai
