Fort Meade in Maryland will welcome its first female Garrison Commander, Colonel Yolanda Gore, on Tuesday. Gore, who previously served as the Pentagon’s Strategic Initiative Chief for the Deputy Chief of Staff, will take over from Colonel Michael Sapp.

She has been in the army since 2002 and has expertise in organizational leadership, manpower, training, human resources, finance, and safety. In a statement, Col. Gore expressed excitement about the new role and its challenges.

She will oversee the fort’s 64,000 staffers at the Army’s second-largest installation, which is a key center for intelligence and cyber operations, including the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command.
