There is a need for guidance on how to acquire utility property interests and reimburse utility owners for eligible utility relocation costs.

NCHRP Web-Only Document 360: Acquisition of Utility Property Interests and Compensation Practices for Utility Relocations, from TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program, develops guidelines that provide a framework for practitioners to follow to reduce the risk of unnecessary delays and added costs. The guidelines include a list and definitions of important terms, a depiction of the project delivery process, suggested activities to document and acquire utility property interests, and integration of these activities with other right-of-way acquisition and utility process activities.

The document is supplemental to NCHRP Research Report 1054: Acquiring Utility Property Interests and Reimbursing Utility Relocation Costs: A Guide.
