Money Magazine has given the University of Virginia a 4.5-star rating in its “Best Colleges of 2024” assessment.
The publication considered several metrics, including graduation rates, the cost of tuition, financial aid and alumni salaries in assigning a possible two to five stars to the school.
Money started with a list of all the nation’s four-year private and public schools, numbering more than 2,400 institutions. That number of schools was slashed to 745 after considering things like class size and schools having a graduation rate “at or above the median for its institutional category” – public, private or historically black institutions. UVA’s graduation rate of 94%, when factoring in both the six-year and four-year rates, is the highest among public universities in the country.
“Known as a ‘public Ivy,’ the University of Virginia offers in-state students a top-notch education at a reasonable price,” Money writes. “The icing on the cake? UVA is the only U.S. college where students hang out and study inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to a gorgeous campus designed by University founder Thomas Jefferson.”
The publication also noted UVA’s financial aid program meets 100% of students’ demonstrated need. In June, the Princeton Review named UVA the No. 1 public school for financial aid and the third best-value public university in the country.
