The 2023 edition of the Africa Hacks Hackathon commenced virtually from December 6 to 14. #AfriHack23, A monumental event that propels African innovation to new heights was proudly powered by @Chimoney. Different skill levels create unique projects in three focus areas: #ArtificialIntelligence, #Blockchain and #cryptocurrency, and #FinancialInclusion and #Payments. Let’s throwback to last Thursday's project demo and award event in Lagos, Nigeria. The volunteer registration team beautifully welcomed judges, attendees, program participants, and others to our event at @TheZone, with welcome remarks from our event and communications lead, Omotola Omotayo, and the arrival of our high-level judges. Uchi Nick Uchibeke, our founder, took the attendees on an interactive session—a brief highlight from the past session orientation—followed by a keynote session by Obianuju Odukwe, Vice President of Digital Ecosystems at Interswitch Group. Before the demo day, we had judges review all participants' submissions virtually, leaving three of the top nine teams under each focus area. Special thanks to our virtual and physical Demo Day judges: Charles Dairo, Tomiwa Ademidun, Oluwasegun Kosemani, Dara Ahmed, Idris Olubisi, Victor Ndukwe, Kolawole Precious, Oluwaseyi Ajadi, and Onyedikachi Ibejih. The program continued with demo sessions from the top nine teams, with three teams emerging as winners:  🥇Team Formina  #FinancialInclusion   🥇Team DuffelChasers #AI&Machine 🥇Team Iratus #Blockchain & #Web3 The #AfriHacks23 team also acknowledged and awarded other outstanding teams in different areas (teamwork and proactiveness, among others). Chimoney (Techstars ‘23) DevRel manager Phyllis Atieno, a Kenyan, shared her incredible story of how the #ScrimByChimoney app saved her travel plans from disaster! Over the past few weeks, we have been working on the #NaijaSDGsHackathon 2023 in partnership with the UNDP Financial Centres for Sustainability (FC4S), Meta, as a technical partner. With our technical support, over 25 teams participated in this year's hackathon. Yesterday, at the Microsoft Garage in Lagos, Nigeria, the top ten teams presented their project ideas to the judges. On this day, our founder, Uchi Nick Uchibeke, led the project demo day, and our technical event and communication lead, Omotola Omotayo, led the fire chat session with Tunji Andrews. It was such an inspiring chat to learn about Awabah, a company leading financial empowerment, and its intersection in Fintech and SDGs. This educational session empowered the hackathon participants on what to know and keep in mind to make an impact in leading financial inclusion in the country.
