There's also been a lack of visibility for queer persons despite their active involvement in driving social change 🌍 through technological innovations. In partnership with The French Embassy in Abuja, CHEVS held a stakeholder engagement on sex work and its conflation with human trafficking, in commemoration of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. This conversation highlighted the hidden ways sex workers can be victims of SGBV and trafficking in Nigeria, which often go unreported and undocumented due to the hostile legal and social landscape they exist in. Decriminalizing proceeds of sex work, protecting the labor rights of sex workers and prioritizing their fundamental human rights will contribute to significantly dispelling the conflation of sex work and trafficking, while advancing the work to end trafficking in persons in the country.
