  • Key Takeaways from the panel session on Gender-Inclusive Pathways to Equitable Primary Health Care in Nigeria featuring our Managing Director, Dr Omokhudu Idogho at the Gender & Inclusion Summit 2024. 1. Effective PHC delivery, particularly to underserved and marginalised populations, is most successful when managed by the people within the community. This people-centred approach promotes ownership and sustainability. 2. As the first point of contact in many communities, PPMVs and CPs must be integrated into service design and delivery to enhance access to essential health services. 3. SFH has been working closely with traditional leaders and religious institutions to challenge and transform cultural norms that hinder access to healthcare, promoting positive change and acceptance of equitable health practices. 4. Expanding access to health insurance is critical, as it is gaining traction across Nigeria. This expansion will provide more equitable health services, especially for women and marginalised groups. 5. SFH has successfully implemented community-based distribution and outreach initiatives that extend services beyond traditional norms. These efforts have been instrumental in reaching women and girls in hard-to-reach areas, bridging the gap between demand and supply. 6. Decision-making at the personal, family, and community levels is important in ensuring gender-inclusive healthcare access. SFH works in empowering local health providers, particularly PPMVs and CPs, which have played a crucial role in facilitating these decisions. Finally, it is essential to incorporate the insights gained from these initiatives into emerging frameworks to maintain progress and ensure that game-changing efforts in expanding access to healthcare for marginalised populations are not lost. As an organisation, we are deeply committed to gender equity and inclusion. This drives our initiative, ensuring that no one is left behind as we strive towards achieving #HealthforAll. The FEDERAL MINISTRY OF FINANCE, BUDGET & NATIONAL PLANNING NIGERIA, in collaboration with Federal Implementing Entities and The World Bank-assisted Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) project, hosted the Annual Nutrition Results Conference and presentation of the 2023 State of Nutrition Report in Nigeria from 29th - 30th, August 2024. Society for Family Health Nigeria (SFH) Deputy Managing Director, Dr Jennifer Anyanti FAPH, and SFH ANRiN Project Chief of Party, Mr Muhammad Ibrahim, along with key stakeholders from government agencies, implementing partners, and civil society organisations were in attendance. The conference, themed From Policy to Action: Implementing Evidence-Based Food and Nutrition Policy for Sustainable National Development, served as a platform to review progress, share innovations, and set the agenda for scaling up successful interventions to enhance food and nutrition security across Nigeria. The ANRiN programme has reached about 15 million children with a basic package of nutrition services across 12 implementation states, covering approximately 48% of Nigerian children under the age of five. In Kaduna State, one of the largest states in the programme, SFH has significantly increased access to quality, cost-effective nutrition and adolescent health services for pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls, and children under five. This has led to improved health outcomes for mothers, adolescents, and young children. #healthforall #ANRIN #MNCH #Nutrition #Adolescent

A real privilege to have attended the technical Workshop of the LGA Primary Healthcare Revitalization and Operationalization Program in Nigeria (PHC-ROP) which was hosted by the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser on Health to the President, Dr. Salma Ibrahim Anas, the Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Ministry of Justice, WHO, and other Stakeholders, that took place at the Presidential Banquet Hall. Great discussions which centered around new national orientation in the fiscal space landscape for an effective and efficient Primary Healthcare service delivery across the country, implementing a robust financial resource mobilization, digitized PHC service delivery system, and possible ways of instituting a capacity development, monitoring and evaluation systems. Proud to share that SFH would fully be supportive of this new initiative that will strengthen primary healthcare services in our communities. Looking forward to partnering further with many of these underserved communities to support in reaching more people with quality, affordable health services by 2030. Let’s keep pushing for #HealthForAll
