📢 Join us on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 16:00 to 17:00 at the Sanquin Pelidome for our next AI&I Seminar on Immunology! Our keynote speaker, Dr. Bernard Malissen 🧬, will dive deep into the molecular basis of T cell malfunctions and disorders using quantitative interactomics. Dr. Malissen is renowned for his pioneering work on T cell receptor (TCR) and major histocompatibility complex (MHC) interactions, providing insights into TCR cross-reactivity and alloreactivity. His current research integrates "omic" approaches and mouse genetics to decode the complex signaling networks that drive T cell activation. Theme: Unveiling the molecular basis of T cell malfunctions and disorders using quantitative interactomics. Host: Derk Amsen 👏🏻 For more information, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/eaDqn63r We look forward to seeing you there!

🌟 TKI-PPP grant - prof. dr. Marjolein van Egmond 🌟 Prof.dr. Marjolein Van Egmond received a TKI subsidy of almost €900.000 from Health~Holland to investigate a new immunotherapeutic approach to treat cancer. Most immunotherapeutic approaches focus on engaging T cells for tumor cell killing. The van Egmond lab, however, identified neutrophils as additional cytotoxic effector cells, through targeting of the IgA Fc receptor (FcaRI; CD89) via bispecific antibodies. In this project, in collaboration with a Swiss-Amsterdam UMC spin-off company she aims to recruit both neutrophils and T cells as effector cells to improve immunotherapy of cancer. It is peak tick season, due to the mild winter and wet spring. Joppe WR Hovius, MD, PhD, professor of infectious diseases at Amsterdam UMC and director of the AI&I research institute, is involved in a large Lyme disease vaccination trial. Prof. Hovius: 'For this international study we are evaluating the vaccine among individuals with an elevated risk for Lyme disease. This includes frequent gardeners, forestry workers, and residents of high tick-bite areas'. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gCDV2xX4

The composition of the intestinal flora can predict the chances of developing serious infections such as pneumonia. Researchers from Amsterdam UMC and the Turun yliopisto - University of Turku, Finland, followed more than 10,000 people for 6 years. More than 600 people who had less healthy intestinal flora developed a serious infection, with this leading in some cases to death. The results of the study have been published in The Lancet Microbe.
