Over ons
EIT Climate-KIC is Europe’s leading climate innovation agency and community, supporting cities, regions, countries and industries to bridge the gap between climate commitments and current reality. EIT Climate-KIC was established in 2010 and is predominately funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union. As a Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC), it brings together partners from business, academia, the public and non-profit sectors to create networks of expertise, through which innovative products, services and systems are developed, brought to market and scaled-up for impact. #SystemsChangeNow

📣 Do you want to learn about systems innovation alongside people working in the field? Join us for the 2024 edition of the Learning Festival, curated by the Systems Innovation Learning Partnership (SILP). With three themed sessions across three days, we intend to go behind the scenes and explore the often-invisible nature of systems innovation – with the people who make it possible. This year’s Systems Innovation Learning Festival builds on a year-long journey with the SILP Experimentation Fund, which allowed us – as a cohort of eight experimental projects around the world – to learn as a collective. Together, we considered how development funding could be done differently, through putting learning at the centre, rather than results. This edition of the festival is special as it’s been designed and delivered in a decentralised way. Each day is created and facilitated by a team of SILP Fund Experimenters, together with EIT Climate-KIC. This allows us to shift the conversation from ‘talking about’ those doing the work to inviting those doing the work to speak with their own voice. ⬇️ Schedule here: • Tuesday 17 September: Transformative funding for systemic learning. How can we monitor and evaluate changes activated by funding for learning? • Wednesday 18 September: Ecosystem response to systemic challenges. How do we leverage and catalyse learning and experimentation for connected action? • Thursday 19 September: Shifting power dynamics together. How do climate change and social justice belong together in deep collaboration? ➡️ Sign up here: https://bit.ly/3AOMgDb #SILPLearningFestival #SystemsInnovation

As cities across Europe accelerate their efforts to combat climate change, innovative local initiatives are essential to achieving a net-zero future. Through our collaboration with FedEx on the Sustainable Cities Mobility Challenge, we’re supporting 5 cities transform the way citizens move about and engage in their local environments. These projects are more than just isolated efforts—they’re part of a larger movement to redefine urban mobility across Europe. Here’s a closer look at the standout projects: 🔵 Ajuntament de Cornellà de Llobregat, Spain is developing "Climate Itineraries" to ensure that critical services remain accessible even during extreme heat, reducing reliance on private vehicles. 🔵 Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, Portugal is enhancing the Walkability.App to gather crucial data on pedestrian experiences, supporting the city’s goal to increase walking and halve emissions by 2030. 🔵 Liverpool City Council, UK is transforming urban spaces with nature-based solutions that promote active travel and improve local environments. 🔵 Ajuntament Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Spain is boosting cycling participation with a dedicated "Cycling Promotion Lab" that focuses on inclusivity and accessibility for all residents. 🔵 Gemeente Utrecht, Netherlands is reimagining car parking spaces as vibrant, green public spaces, challenging the dominance of cars in urban design. 🌱 “The courage to try, creates the possibility of achieving something positive.” Watch our exclusive Reuters documentary about one Ukrainian city's ambition to reduce its carbon footprint and become an example to others and a beacon of hope for its citizens. 📽️ "Light in turbulent times" looks at how the city of Rivne is creating the infrastructure for a future that is greener, safer, and more beautiful. The city’s carbon neutrality journey is also bringing hope to a community striving to work, live, and raise their children in an uncertain environment. Rivne is one of the many cities we work with at EIT Climate-KIC through NetZeroCitiesEU and other city programmes. Our vision is to transform over 400 cities, regions, and countries into just, climate-resilient, and regenerative places by 2030. ▶️ Watch the documentary now -> https://lnkd.in/eqaeKSBz #LiveableCities #NetZeroCities #EUMissions

🏙️ No city in Europe finds the journey to carbon neutrality easy. Among other things, there are political and institutional barriers to overcome, technological and innovation gaps to bridge, and infrastructure challenges to address. But with the war raging in Ukraine, the city of Rivne is confronted with these challenges on an exponential scale. Yet inspite of all the challenges, with support, they not only find solutions but hope. 📽️ Watch the full documentary soon! #LiveableCities #NetZeroCities #EUMissions

The construction sector accounts for the largest share of Europe’s material footprint and over 35% of its total waste. But it doesn’t have to be this way. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation's new Building Prosperity report identifies six #circulareconomy strategies to unlock the potential in Europe’s built environment — delivering widespread benefits to nature, society, and business. And we can start implementing them now. Together, we can unlock the potential of a nature-positive, circular economy for Europe. Find out how — read the report here: https://lnkd.in/e-3UK6xH #BuildingProsperity

🌍 Traditional development funding and power dynamics need to shift for the communities that need it most. Our Head of Philanthropy Melody Song explores and emphasizes the need for rethinking development funding, advocating for more collaboration and inclusivity, and push for a shift in power dynamics that prioritises local leadership and innovation. Embracing discomfort and rethinking our roles in the development sector are essential steps toward creating lasting, equitable change. Melody looks at Sida, which, rather than acting as a traditional funder, has started to explore experimental funding practices, for example through intermediary or grassroots organisations co-deciding on funding allocation.
