🌱 Crisp is now a B Corp company! What’s next? We consider our recent B Corp certification a matter of course, and a valuable validation of our ongoing sustainable practices. However, our commitment to improving the food system doesn’t end there. Together with 'Boeren Natuurlijk', an initiative from MVO Nederland, we’re taking the next step towards a future-proof food system by actively supporting the agricultural transition. In fact, we’re proud to be the first supermarket to set a measurable target, helping to transfer Dutch agriculture to nature-inclusive solutions. By 2030, at least 30% of Crisp’s sold fruits and vegetables is sourced at regenerative farms. Want to know how we'll get there? 🌾 Last weekend, our team got an exciting glimpse into the future of farming. During our annual field trip, we experienced nature-inclusive agriculture at its finest, at regenerative farm Zonnegoed V.O.F. / Joost van Strien in Ens. With our boots firmly planted in the healthy soils of the root fields, this ‘no-shit farmer’ shuns pesticides and heavy machinery, opting instead for vegan solutions to restore soils and increase biodiversity. By growing a variety of crops, using strip cultivation and integrating agroforestry, this food paradise gives proof of why we love working together with this supplier in our mission to make the world a more tasteful place. #futureoffood #lekkercrisp #regenerativefarming

🎙 There’s something strange about our modern world. Finding things to eat has never been easier, but good food is getting harder and harder to find. In between hectic working hours and a busy personal life, our co-founder and CEO Tom Peeters was seeking a more time-saving way for his family to access seasonal vegetables, freshly auctioned fish, and Dutch cheese from nearby. Building that solution became his personal drive to start Crisp six years ago, together with Eric Klaassen and Michiel Roodenburg. In conversation with Diana Matroos, Tom flashes back to the origins of Crisp during an episode of BNR Nieuwsradio Big Five. 🐛 Leading up to International Biodiversity Day on May 22nd, Crisp introduces a product that makes the world just a little tastier. In collaboration with local brewery Van Moll Craft Beer and the foragers from Wilder Land, we developed a herbal, low-alcohol, blonde beer: Crisp Wilder Blond. For the herbs in this 0.3% beer, herb & flower strips are planted at farm fields and meadows across the country. Giving a buzzing home to hundreds of mosses, butterflies, bees and other pollinators. And that is much needed for Dutch nature. Last month, Universiteit Leiden, Naturalis Biodiversity Center Nederland and the Nederlands Instituut voor Ecologie (NIOO-KNAW) found that many wild plants are disappearing due to a shortage of insects*. 🍃 Take it from us: this is not your average green asparagus. They might look pretty normal, their story definitely isn’t. At Crisp, we believe that regenerative farming is the future of how fresh food is grown. Those farmers work together with nature, instead of exhausting it. That is why we are so proud of our collaboration with Regeneratieve Boerderij Schevichoven in Leersum. There, these seasonal sensations are grown by using a so-called permaculture method. By planting agroforestry strips, a wide diversity of crops are grown by using only light machinery and no chemicals or fertilizers. The result? Soil and plants become more resilient, diseases and pests have less chance to proliferate, biodiversity is increased and the risk of crop loss is significantly reduced.
