'#KCAP Present Design for Masterplan of "Sugar Valley", in Munich' The Sugar Valley project located in #Obersendling, #Munich is set to create a new mixed-urban neighbourhood that's dense, rich in greenery and designed to host an array of architectural typologies along its central public spine. The result of a first prize winning competition, the #masterplan and urban design guidelines for the project were designed by KCAP and SLA, with input by Cobe. The competition was won in 2018, and design for the masterplan started in 2019. The Obersendling district, which has been long an #industrial #backbone of the city, is currently undergoing a deep transformation. The district as a whole has, in the last decade, seen many of its old factories and warehouses giving way to contemporary developments. This rapid transformation has made the area a dynamic and attractive place to live; drawing in a diverse mix of residents. Originally named ‘Wunderkammer’, this #new #neighbourhood repurposes a 4.7-hectare industrial site—once home to a Siemens plant and a concrete factory—into a mixed-use quarter. The project's client is SALVIS Consulting AG. Read more about the project over on our website: https://lnkd.in/eqnAECnC

'KCAP's Werkstadt Zürich is Published in "Hochparterre"' Hochparterre is one of the most widely read publications on architecture, design and urban planning in #Switzerland. #KCAP was recently featured in the publication, in an article highlighting the transformation of the Swiss Federal Railway (SBB CFF FFS) workshops in #Zürich. Associate partner Yoo Na Ho and Associate Mirjam Züger were interviewed by the publication's contributing journalist Daniel Kurz, about the project's development. The project is named 'Werkstadt Zürich', and it exemplifies KCAP's collaborative approach to urban planning, balancing preservation and modern use densification, for a long-term urban transformation. It entails creating a masterplan for the new development, working alongside several other firms together with SBB, focussing on the urban transformation strategy; while ensuring that new structures harmonise with the historic buildings, thereby allowing flexibility for future developments. The process involved extensive engagement with potential users, leading to tailored spaces that cater to various industries, particularly those focused on "urban production". The project is ongoing, with plans for potential vertical expansion and further innovation, guided by the principles KCAP and our partners (denkstatt sàrl, Studio Vulkan Landschaftsarchitektur, IBV Hüsler AG, KEOTO, and BAKUS Bauphysik & Akustik AG) established, during the planning phase. KCAP's involvement has been marked by a commitment to preserving the heritage and identity of the site, and accommodating new innovative enterprises. 'KCAP Set to Design Urban Development Vision for Chassé Quarter, in Breda' #Breda, the eighth largest city of the Netherlands, has ambitious plans to improve its city centre. On the eastern side of the city centre is the former Chassé military area, which was partly transformed in the late-1990s into Chassépark; a campus-like residential area designed by OMA. Chassé Quarter, just north of Chassépark, is the next adjacent urban area to be transformed and it is part of a larger vision for ‘Centre East’, which Breda approved an ambition document in mid-2023, following five key ambitions: -Strong urban character -High quality public space -Vibrant cultural hotspot  -Living in the centre of Breda -A healthy future for urban life With a lively cultural scene and several venues such as a theatre, cinema and museum nearby; this area is set to become a vibrant cultural quarter with a lively programmed public space. Additionally, new programming is planned in the monumental former panopticon prison (Koepelcomplex) will be well integrated in the developmental plans. A key feature within the plans for this area of the city, will be a new urban park along the canal encircling the city centre. #KCAP was selected as a renowned international design firm with proven experience in devising innovative solutions to contemporary challenges, in dense urban centres. The selection committee also praised KCAP’s affinity for its innovative design across its core disciplines of architecture, landscape design, urban design and urban programming. The vision will be elaborated in a public-private collaboration between the municipality and a coalition of stakeholders, consisting of developers Synchroon, Heijmans, 3W real estate, AT Capital, EMRO Real Estate and social housing companies WonenBreburg and Alwel. DELVA Landscape Architecture / Urbanism is the landscape architect; Rebel leads PPP partnerships; SITE urban development is the project’s process manager; and agency De Wijde Blik communicatie will organise a city-wide participatory process—to involve citizens and others to voice their considerations, during the project’s planning process. The outcome of the process—set to occur throughout this year and the beginning of 2025—will result in a vision and development plan, elaborated through a co-creative ‘research by design’ method; creating a spatial framework and guidelines for public space, programming, mobility, energy and climate considerations, alongside several other qualitative parameters. Stay tuned as we release information on the project, throughout 2024. Read more about the urban vision over on our website: https://lnkd.in/ef2gbadW

'KCAP Vision for Lelystad City Centre-East Approved, in Flevoland' Recently in #Lelystad, the municipal council approved the memorandum of principles for ‘Stadshart Oost’, which marks a significant step in the metropolitan and sustainable growth of the city. In collaboration with the municipality, #KCAP has outlined the ambitions, the vision and the conditions for this transformation of the eastern part of the city centre. Given the current high pressure placed on Amsterdam and its surround metropolitan regions, the centre of Lelystad offers ample opportunities to provide a significant portion of the need for new housing, at a major public transportation node in the region. The transformation of ‘#StadshartOost’ will help to further establish Lelystad, as a diverse urban residential environment that is easily accessible due to the proximity of the intercity station. This newly envisioned area is set to become a unique, attractive and multi-functional part of Lelystad, where everyone—from long-time residents, to day trippers and tourists—feel welcome. It’s meant to be a bustling place, which is inviting to meet and explore, while also offering rest and retreat to live and stay, pleasantly, in the heart of the city—where nature and people are the forefront of design considerations. Within 'Stadshart Oost’, a robust green-blue framework will form the base for a healthy city. A key intervention will be the addition of a new linear park, offering ample green space to enjoy outdoor recreation and connection to nature. The leafy park will make the centre more nature-inclusive by connecting surrounding green structures; and more climate adaptive by capturing storm water and contribute to urban cooling. Regarding mobility, the focus is on reducing car use and promoting healthy modes of transport like biking, walking and public transport. ‘Stadshart Oost’ is set to become incredibly urban in character, with buildings on average six to ten stories high, and with a landmark up to 18 stories. The new buildings will enrich the city centre with more than 1.200 houses and strengthen the heart of the city with services, culture, leisure, shops and places to work. The programming vision was developed in close connection with the ‘Action Plan’ for the entire city centre. This plan, which is being made by Republiek and INBO also contains an integrated approach to improving the city centre as a destination for culture, leisure, shopping, working and living. In collaboration with stakeholders and the municipality, KCAP will further elaborate the vision into an integral urban plan. Continuous communication and participation with the community will be maintained throughout the process to come, weaving local residents into the process. 'KCAP to Design Masterplan for Breitenbach, Switzerland' For over 100 years, the Isola Area has been an important part of #Breitenbach, #Switzerland—which is situated close to the German and French borders. This area, with its characteristic industrial buildings, is set to be developed from an industrial area into a mixed-use site for residential, work and leisure uses. Old industrial halls are lined up next to classic, industrial office architecture from the 1960s. Protected woodland runs through the area, while the 20 km long Lüssel river—which is part of the Rhine’s catchment area—meanders and flows through the middle of Breitenbach. In 2022, KCAP successfully participated in a test planning process organised by Steiner AG, for the landowner, Seraina Investment Foundation. KCAP was then commissioned to develop the masterplan, which forms the basis for the legal plan amendments. At the core of the project’s #masterplan is the existing Isola Area, as a valuable resource for the transformation; whereby the site, the buildings, the outside spaces, the landscape elements and the water are all understood as resources for the transformation process. The project encompasses three different neighbourhoods on both sides of the Lüssel, the renaturation of which will create new recreational areas for residents. It preserves intimate spatial sequences from the industrial past and combines existing and new buildings, in a variety of building typologies. Isola Neumatt is a lush residential area to the west of the Lüssel with garden typologies that benefit from the green lung on the renaturalised banks of the river. Isola Valley envisages the restructuring of the industrial area, with higher-value activities centered around the majestic industrial hall. A gradual transformation strategy utilises the potential for #circular #construction. The project’s overarching aim is to create a #sustainable #neighborhood that preserves the existing atmosphere, thereby creating new living and working spaces as an intrinsic part of Breitenbach. On Saturday 29 June 2024, an event titled ‘Isola Fest’ will take place in Breitenbach from 12:00-23:00, with exhibitions and tours among other activities, and a presentation of plans to the public. Read more about Isola Fest taking place this weekend, in Breitenbach: https://lnkd.in/dhSd5XqC Stay tuned as we release more information on the project later this summer.
