Recently, Laura Szundy (the daughter of our managing director at LC Packaging Hungary) brought history and sustainability together in a remarkable project. As a fashion design student at Istituto Marangoni Milano, she showcased her vision on sustainable fashion through the I’M CONSCIOUS project by Istituto Marangoni Milano x Sara Sozzani. Growing up in the packaging industry, Laura saw potential in old discarded jute sacks with printing errors from one of our long-term partners HZPC (back then known as ZPC), transforming these sacks into unique upcycled garments. By incorporating old family embroideries and bedsheets -some even crafted by her great-grandmother in the 1950s- she honoured tradition while embracing sustainability. Looking at the more than 50-year partnership between Royal LC Packaging and Royal HZPC Group, this demonstrates the importance of valuing relationships that support a more sustainable future. In April 2024, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) was passed with a large majority by the European Parliament, marking a significant step forward with sustainability initiatives. The final package is expected to be approved by late 2024 or early 2025, making the PPWR a binding EU-wide law by mid-2026! Our participants from the third edition of the Siyazenzela Youth Development Programme -𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘓𝘊 𝘗𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘈𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘊 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘍𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 Wilderness Foundation Africa- completed their second week of training! This week offered a dynamic blend of learning, exploration, and personal growth. It included field trips to various companies, including a visit to LC Shankar, where participants saw firsthand how FIBCs are produced and learned more about our operations. The week wrapped up with training sessions focused on job interview techniques, employment rights, and financial management. The enthusiasm shown by the participants is truly inspiring! A few years ago, our colleagues from LC Packaging South Africa and the LC Supports Foundation partnered with the Wilderness Foundation Africa to focus on protecting and sustaining wildlife, wilderness, and youth empowerment. This week, the third edition of the Siyazenzela Youth Development Programme kicked off. Siyazenzela — meaning "𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴" in isiXhosa — aims to empower young people by providing skills and educational opportunities. This initiative opens new pathways, including employment, post-secondary education, and entrepreneurship. This year, they are working with the Swayimane community in Wartburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal. This week, Richard Green, Krishna Barua-Vithal, Thobani Hlengwa, and Wilderness Foundation Africa facilitators Ntobeko Ngcala and Lwazi Xinwa introduced the programme to the ten selected candidates. 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰.. ..the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) is actually coming? The CSDDD introduces a due diligence duty, making it a legal requirement for many companies to check how their actions negatively affect people and the environment in their own operations and in their value chain, inside and outside of Europe and to act with due care. At LC Packaging, we are happy to already have a strong due diligence process in place, which will be further optimised to meet these new standards.
