💰Grid fees for larger consumers, such as truck charging hubs, are often based on annual peak demand capacity (kW). This significantly influences costs compared to volumetric fees based on kilowatt-hours (kWh). This fee structure, designed to encourage efficient grid use, poses challenges for truck charging hubs due to high demand peaks during drivers’ mandated breaks. 💡Flexible grid fees could stimulate charging away from peak hours if they are more attractive. Early market charging hubs may experience lower overall utilization but still face periodic peaks, creating an imbalance that jeopardizes business viability. Weekly Network Update - Milence breaks ground on the first UK charging hub in Immingham, UK! 🌿⚡ Milence is pleased to announce the development of our first UK charging hub in Immingham, a pivotal hub for transportation and logistics in the UK and Europe. 🚛🌍 Strategically located on the east coast of England, Immingham boasts excellent road and rail links, including direct access to major motorways such as the M180, M18, and M1, ensuring efficient cargo distribution across the UK. The port's proximity allows for less than 24-hour connectivity to a European market of 170 million people, regularly servicing Northern Europe, Scandinavia, and the Baltic regions. With the hub set to be operational in November 2024, this milestone underscores our commitment to advancing sustainable transport solutions and supporting the UK's green initiatives. The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 European Testing Tour arrived at the Milence Hub in Heudebouville, France! Mercedes-Benz Trucks started the “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024” in June and 2 prototypes of the new electric flagship truck are driving through more than 20 European countries, aiming to complete over 13.000 kilometers each with 40 tons of total towing weight. We were happy to provide green energy to the 2 trucks at the Milence Charging Hub. Milence and Power Electronics, the leading manufacturer of solar inverters for photovoltaic plants, energy storage, and the electric mobility sector, have successfully tested a new Megawatt Charging System (MCS), delivering a 1.1 MW charge. This test marks a significant milestone in the evolution of electric truck charging: ⚡️ 1100 kW ⚡️ 817 V ⚡️ 1347 A The Megawatt Charging System (MCS) is the newly established standard for high-power charging, tailored to address the demands of the expanding electric truck sector. As a frontrunner in creating public charging solutions for heavy-duty electric vehicles in Europe, Milence has been working alongside partners to advance MCS technology and hasten its market adoption. The pilot test was conducted with a prototype of the Mercedes-Benz Trucks eActros 600. Additional testing, involving several truck brands, will follow to ensure the system's readiness for market deployment. This week: Belgium 🇧🇪 Did you know that at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges we have 2 Charging Hubs?  One located at truck parking Ketenis, is already opened and offers 20 charging bays! A 2nd one is located only 20km away at truck parking Goordijk. This hub is currently under construction and scheduled to open later in Q3. It will bring 10 more charging bays to the 2nd biggest maritime port in Europe and contributes to the green corridor initiative between the port or Antwerp & Bruges.
