🌍 We're excited to share that our Holistic Care for Survivors of Sexual Violence in Conflict Handbook is now available in 5 languages: English, French, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Arabic! We developed the handbook with Panzi Hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Panzi Foundation DRC. It is designed to guide organisations to provide comprehensive care to survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV). The handbook highlights Panzi's One-Stop Centre approach, which aims to address the full spectrum of survivors' needs for recovery and healing. 🕯 Today we honour the strength of Yazidi survivors by joining the #ourworkisnotdone campaign. 10 years ago, ISIS invaded the Sinjar region in northern Iraq and began their genocidal campaign against the Yazidi community. ISIS used sexual violence as a weapon against Yazidis in an attempt to destroy the fabric of their community. Over 6,000 women and children were kidnapped and taken into captivity, and more than 2,000 are still missing. Despite existing legal and normative frameworks against conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV), States are often unaware of their international obligations. 🙏 Today, we celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day. It was also on this day, the 18th of July, that Nelson Mandela founded The Elders in 2007. The Elders are a group of independent global leaders working together for peace, justice, human rights and a sustainable planet.   In March this year, Dr Denis Mukwege joined The Elders, bringing rich expertise and moral authority, reflected by his work treating survivors of conflict-related sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Dr Mukwege's dedication to the rights of survivors inspires our daily work at the Mukwege Foundation. We create opportunities for survivors to speak out and be heard, organise to create change, influence policies, and demand justice and accountability ⚖️.
