These opportunities for the Dutch water sector are especially in the field of addressing water scarcity and flood challenges, advancing agriculture and horticulture and circularity, and providing urban water management solutions, tells Vincent. He emphasised that now is the ideal time for the Dutch water sector to enter the Australian market, especially with solutions aimed at climate change mitigation. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 🌱 In July, the Saline Water & Food Systems Partnership, a collaboration between the NWP (Netherlands Water Partnership) and the Netherlands Food Partnership, launched a call for proposals for Seed Money projects on salinity. After a thorough external review, three salinity projects in #Bangladesh, #Senegal, and #Mozambique have been awarded grants. 👉 In Bangladesh, the ‘Resilient Roots: Leveraging Indigenous Practices for Salinity Adaptation in Southern Bangladesh’ project will be implemented by the Center of People and Environ, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) (Free University of Amsterdam) and Krisoker Sor (Farmers’ Voice). 👉 In Senegal, the Africa Rice Center and MetaMeta consortium will investigate salinity-affected rice cultivation. 👉 In Mozambique, a project on agroforestry interventions and training for salt-affected soils will start. It will be run by a consortium consisting of Associação dos Amigos do Bambu - ASSAMBA, ABIODES, Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique Institute of Agricultural Research, Weltweit-Cooperative for the Promotion of Local Initiatives e.V. The Salt Doctors, and the Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam. The venue will yet be communicated. The meeting follows up on the November 2023 session and will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participants from #SouthSudan and the #Netherlands to join online. The Platform aims to advance the development of South Sudan's #watersector and enhance #cooperation between South Sudanese and Dutch water sectors. This meeting, themed "Stay Close to Water Sector Action," will build on previous sessions, focusing on sharing practical experiences and lessons from Dutch-South Sudanese collaborations. 📢 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝟰,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿 A solar-powered desalination system installed in the remote community of Anja-Belitsaka, Madagascar, produces 30,000 litres of high-quality fresh water per day using salt water and sunshine. The freshwater is distributed through a piped water supply network and a water kiosk at a modest rate that covers operational expenses and ensures a sustainable business model. In doing so, the project also provides opportunities for local economic development. 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗼 The Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) will host its 33rd Annual Conference and Exhibition in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, from 21-25 October 2024. Themed ‘Collective Regional Action Toward a Climate Resilient, Water Secure and Zero Waste Caribbean,’ the event will focus on best practices and innovative solutions in water and sanitation. Key discussions will cover water security, waste management, and regional governance. Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS) face unique challenges, including water scarcity due to rising temperatures, salinity from sea-level rise, and infrastructure threats from hurricanes. Significant investments are being made, such as Barbados' US$300 million debt-for-climate operation with the European Investment Bank and Inter-American Development Bank.
