A community of practices for process safety has started. The initiating partners are AkzoNobel, Dow, Fibrant, Neptune Energy, SABIC, Tessenderlo Group, Tronox and New Behavior. This initiative is supported by a safety deal of Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development. The main goal is to exchange and develop knowledge and to put this knowledge into practice to further increase process safety. By doing this we want to develop a best practice of how to facilitate social learning between sites of one company or across companies. This community works with Howspace as an online platform. Check out the first version of the public website. At the Process Safety Congress we had an interactive session on Assurance activities. We enabled participants to contribute to the session by having a dialog. But not just by asking questions and having a conversation. This was supported by using Howspace Top 5 based on these answers: Results an assessment should deliver 1. Identification of improvement opportunities 2. Clear understanding of underlying reasons/causes 3. Actionable recommendations for improvement 4. Measurement of compliance with global standards 5. Recognition of strengths and best practices See below how Assurance is perceived and what the role of fresh eyes is. New Behavior has a team of experienced leaders that have been responsible in the roles that are part of an assessment of audit. This leads to sharp questions on the topics that matter. Give us a call to start a conversation on how you can get more value out of assurance.

We're proud to be selected as strategic partner of Howspace. Howspace is a digital platform to enable face-to-face and digital facilitation and collaboration. In assignments with large scale changes, e.g. a new permit to work standard for a petro-chemical complex with several Seveso organizations and contractors, using Howspace enabled us to execute our Engage and Change plan in a very efficient and impactful manner. The big difference we've noticed is that participant are really enable to contribute to the design- and test work, so they are involved from the start of changes that will impact their work. This makes the quality of solutions better and delivers changes faster due to commitment by people that will ultimately work with the changes on a day to day basis. Working with the people of Howspace is also a joy. Where happy to work with Janna Admiraal, Antje Schubert and Evy S.

Unforgettable Moments at ESPC 2023: A Chronicle of Resilience, Leadership, and Collaborative Excellence This year's European Process Safety Centre (ESPC) left an indelible mark, transcending the boundaries of professional discourse to touch the deepest chords of emotion. The opening session resonated with a poignant narrative from a unit manager, a tale marked by a fatality and severe burns within his team. His sincerity echoed through the venue, delivering a powerful message: the past may be unchangeable, but the future is within our grasp. It was a heart-wrenching experience, leaving an enduring impact on all who witnessed it. The subsequent story was equally compelling, as a leader shared a transformative journey prompted by similar experiences. This leader courageously advocated for halting all work until operational control was regained—a decision not taken lightly but deemed the right course of action. These narratives serve as a call for us to practice anticipated regret, contemplating what actions could have altered outcomes. Leading with Chronic Unease, the ethos emphasizes the necessity of collective vigilance, ensuring there are no single points of failure, even in seemingly safe environments. Safety becomes a shared responsibility, woven into the fabric of team and organizational dynamics. The narrative then soared to new heights with Virginie Guyot, a trailblazing French fighter pilot. As the first woman to command the Patrouille de France, she unveiled the secrets of safety in precision aerobatics. Her insights underscored the importance of meticulous mission preparation, comprehensive briefings, and iterative debriefs. Beyond technicalities, she highlighted the paramount role of relationships within a team—particularly Psychological Safety—underscoring the trust required to entrust one's life to teammates. The active learning culture she described, integral to her field, is poised to find resonance within the process safety community, requiring support and expertise from those intimately familiar with the realities of chemical facilities. A pivotal collaboration between New Behavior and Chemelot unfolded, featuring Diederik van Heugten and Coen van Driel. They presented a groundbreaking update on Permit to Work (PtW) for a multi-user site at Chemelot, involving alignment among over 15 Seveso companies and 200+ stakeholders. The success lay in a potent blend of PtW content development, thought leadership, and a comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategy. Throughout the transformative journey, regular gatherings fostered open dialogue, facilitated by innovative collaboration software. As we bid adieu to Tijs Koerts and the board of ESPC 2023, the anticipation for the next rendezvous in Barcelona on December 2nd and 3rd, 2024, grows. New Behavior extend a warm invitation to join them in Barcelona, and all presentations from this year can be accessed on the ESPC website
