🌍 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗢𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀: 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 🌍
The #ParisOlympics sets new standards in event sustainability, with a commitment to halving its carbon footprint compared to previous Games. Here’s a breakdown of their efforts:
🔹 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆: The Aquatics Centre to be powered by 4,680m² of solar panels, covering about 20% of its energy needs. The remaining 80% will come from Energy Attribute Certificates (#EACs) sourced from grid-connected renewable energy.
🔹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The Games aim to reduce their carbon emissions by 50% compared to the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Games. This includes securing 1,472,550 metric tons of CO2 credits from 13 projects globally.
🔹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 95% of the competition venues will be existing or temporary, minimizing new construction. The only new venue, the Aquatics Centre, utilizes low-carbon materials and recycled resources, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainability.
🔹 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Emphasizing public transport and cycling, the Games will see enhanced public transit options and extensive cycling networks to reduce reliance on cars and lower emissions.
🔹 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: Over 80% of the food to be locally sourced, with a significant increase in plant-based options. Single-use plastics will be cut by 50%, favoring recycled materials instead.
🔹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀: Paris 2024 is investing in various #carbonoffsetting projects, including reforestation and renewable energy initiatives, ensuring any unavoidable emissions are balanced by positive environmental impacts. Paris 2024 is setting a new standard for how major events can prioritize and achieve sustainability. 🌿
