The Polestar Capital Circular Debt Fund receives another €43mln in capital. The European Investment Fund (EIF), Oost NL and Realdania join as investors. The fund will lend the capital to innovative sustainable production companies that realise a first production facility at commercial scale. A phase usually too innovative for banks and too capital intense for venture capital and subsidies alone. By bridging the funding gap for these #circularinnovators, Polestar Capital aims to enable and accelerate the transition to a #circulareconomy. The commitment from the EIF is backed by the European Union InvestEU programme and the Dutch Alternative Credit Instrument (DACI) of Invest-NL and the EIF. Oost NL participates via Participatiefonds Oost NL en Perspectieffonds Gelderland.   Jan-Willem König, CEO of Polestar Capital: “We are very pleased with these new investors, and particularly also with the EIF, one of the largest and most professional fund investors in Europe. The Polestar Capital Circular Debt Fund (PCDF) finances BioBTX, a pioneering developer of renewable aromatics technology in the Netherlands. Polestar Capital issues a €15 million loan to BioBTX as part of its total funding of €80 million for the realisation of the world's first commercial-scale renewable chemicals plant, utilising BioBTX's innovative technology to produce sustainable aromatics (BTX) from plastic waste and biomass. Ton Vries, CEO of BioBTX, says: "We are proud to welcome Polestar Capital as a finance provider. Thanks to its specialist approach and customisation, the PCDF debt financing fits well with the needs of BioBTX, allowing us to build our plant in Delfzijl. A milestone like this is only achieved when parties come together to contribute to a greater goal. This funding is a crucial step in creating a sustainable pathway for the chemical industry – and we are excited to take the lead from Groningen".
