European standards for Assistance dogs are developed within CEN/TC 452 'Assistance dogs'; the NEN standards committee 'Assistance dogs' participates in this with a balanced Dutch delegation from various stakeholder groups.

For those who have a physical or mental disability, the world will soon become small. An assistance dog can then bring relief. Also for people with psychological conditions, with epilepsy or a form of autism, a dog can mean very much. Unfortunately, not everyone qualifies for a training course with a dog paid through the health insurer. For those people the Foundation Bulters + Mekke was established.
The Foundation is an official member of ADEu (Assistance Dogs Europe).

Represents the Dutch Assistance Dogs providers.

Assistance Dogs International (ADI) is a coalition of not for profit organizations that train and place assistance dogs. The purpose of ADI is to improve the areas of training, placement, and utilization of assistance dogs as well as staff and volunteer education. ADI has a comprehensive accredtation system and members have to be regularly assessed to ensure they meet the high standards expected of assistance dog programs.

For 80 years, a number of not-for-profit organisations in Europe have been active in training assistance dogs and teaching many professionals and volunteers, who are involved in this process.

Most of these organisations are totally dependent on occasional grants and voluntary fundraising to further their work.
