🌿 Another step forward for renewable energy – EU approves €750M Dutch scheme for industrial decarbonisation. ⛽ What’s the plan? The €750 million Dutch scheme designed to support the decarbonisation of sectors with industrial production processes which will be replaced with electrified processes. 🏢 Under this plan, companies will receive grants for projects to replace fossil fuels – to qualify, they must reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by at least 0.1 million tonnes by 2030, meeting the 2019 national CO2 levy thresholds. 🌎 This scheme is key to the Dutch plan to cut industrial emissions by 4 million tonnes by 2030 and supports the EU's REPower EU Plan and Green Deal Industrial Plan. 🔗 Read more about the grant here and find out which Amsterdam-based companies are already working towards zero-emissions: https://lnkd.in/ejrv5Ven #DecarbonAmsterdam #CleanEnergy #SustainableFuture #GreenTech #CarbonFree #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction

🔍 Big research news – Amsterdam UMC will lead a large-scale European study into how to prevent burnout for staff who work in operating theatres. 😓 Healthcare professionals in surgical and hospital care in Europe on average experience higher stress and burnout than other professions – around 60% show symptoms of burnout, and up to half of nurses consider leaving their jobs. 🏥 With a €6.5 million Horizon grant, researchers aim to develop an AI-supported digital tool to predict the best stress-reducing methods for individual healthcare providers. 🫀 Several stress-reduction methods will be tested in clinical trials across European hospitals. At Amsterdam UMC, the operating team's stress will be measured using special T-shirts that track heart rate and sweat. ⬆️ With the past decade seeing a continuous rise in global workplace stress and burnout – this study by Amsterdam UMC could not come at a more crucial time. 🔗 Find out more about the study here: https://lnkd.in/eqsUncbQ #MedTechInnovation #TechInHealthcareAMS #MedTechAMS #StressSolutions

🧠 Huge news for the neurology field – Amsterdam UMC's Alzheimer Centre has created a model to predict cognitive decline in early-stage Alzheimer's patients. 🧪 The model based on data from nearly 1000 Alzheimer’s patients uses age, gender, cognitive tests (memory, problem solving, attention, reasoning and comprehension), MRI scans and cerebrospinal fluid (the fluid that surrounds the brain) analysis. While not providing absolute certainty, it indicates the disease’s progression over 5 years. 🤳 What’s next? The following phase is to develop an app using this prediction model – this allows patients and families to have direct insight and overview of what the following steps are. ❤️ Although there is currently no cure for Alzheimer's – this is an important development for patients, families and neurologists around the world to gain better insight and to provide better care for Alzheimer's patients. 🔗 Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/epjz_izF #MedTechAMS #AlzheimersAwareness #MedInnovation #TechInHealthcareAMS

🍲 Eating sustainably has been a hot topic lately – the main question being, what does the future of our food look like and how can we make smarter choices for our taste buds as well as our planet? 🤖 Amsterdam-based experience design studio Tellart might just have cracked the code – their new project ‘Dinner in 2050’ is an AI-assisted visual game that brings the topic of future of food onto the dinner table. 🎮 Making its debut at the December 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference – Tellart’s AI identifies meal ingredients with high carbon footprints, suggests sustainable alternatives, and creates a future version of the dish, educating guests on environmental impacts and nutrition. 🥗 Tellart’s innovative use of AI is yet another example of how Amsterdam-based companies are embracing AI-technology to ensure sustainability is front and centre of the conversation. For example, Growy – a vertical-farm in Amsterdam uses AI to manage all operational processes, while Overstory uses AI and satellite imagery to monitor forests and vegetation in real time. 🔗 Read all about Dinner in 2050 here: https://lnkd.in/epJwmn3u #InnovativeSolutions #TheFutureOfFood #AmsterdamAI #AIInFood

💯 The verdict is in. And the Netherlands ranks among Europe's top 5 innovators according to the recently released European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS). 👀 What criteria were the EIS looking at? The EIS report groups countries as Innovation Leaders or Strong Innovators based on EU averages. Since 2017, most EU nations have improved their innovation performance with some fluctuations and things to improve upon. 🦾 What were the Netherlands strongest areas? The three main areas were a strong education system, top research institutions, and a digitally proficient population. However, the country still struggles with low private investment in innovation, which is below the EU average. ✨Overall, the Netherlands continues to strengthen its status as a leading innovator in Europe – and this can be seen here in Amsterdam, from the city’s dynamic startup ecosystem to the groundbreaking research that is conducted at institutions such as the Amsterdam UMC, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) and the University of Amsterdam. 🔗Get all the facts here: https://lnkd.in/eU9suncc #DutchInnovators #Top5Innovators #InnovationInAmsterdam #AmsterdamInnovators

🍃 Ever wondered what happens to old wind-turbines? And what you can do with 135-metre tall steel giants? Let's dive into it. 🗓️ First, let’s dive into lifespan of turbines. Wind turbines are built to last 20-25 years with regular maintenance, while newer models can last up to 35 years due to technological advancements. ♻️ But once their time is up, what are the options? If in good condition, they can be sold to wind farms to be used or parts can be sold separately for other repairs. Remaining components can be repurposed for bridges, recycled, incinerated, landfilled, or sold second hand. 🌀 Efforts are underway to improve recycling and develop better disposal methods to reduce landfill use – however, incineration is still a problem and the Dutch are taking a creative approach turning turbine blades into building materials, playgrounds, shelters, and unique architectural designs. 🔗 Learn something new today about the future of wind-turbines here: https://lnkd.in/edQxNMX8 #RecycleRepurpose #ReduceReuseRecycle #WindTurbines #CircularEconomy
