Look at how little space 6,000 plastic pallets needs! 🙌 Earlier this year, Nille AS received 6,000 recycled plastic pallets from AION to their warehouse, in order for them to switch from the use of wooden pallets in distribution to a more lightweight and sustainable option ♻🚛 These lightweight plastic pallets are easier and safer to handle, and while a standard EPAL wooden pallet weighs around 24 kg, Nille’s new pallets weight less than 7kg! This represents a weight reduction of almost 70%, making operations significantly easier for warehouse and in-store employees. And with 295 stores across Norway, this is a step towards reducing their environmental footprint and minimize waste, as the pallets can be recycled again and again, exemplifying the principles of a circular economy ♻ 👉...And the feedback from employees in both the warehouse and stores has been positive: "There is less debris from splintered wood on the floors, and handling the pallets is more comfortable, reducing the risk of back injuries." "This is the biggest improvement in goods delivery at Nille." AION is proud to support Nille on their journey toward a more sustainable future, one pallet at a time. With over 675 million wooden EPAL in circulation, a large percentage of the world's resources are used to make pallets used for transportation of goods - This is a practice that is not sustainable. Plastic pallets are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to traditional wooden pallets, and can be a suitable option for many companies' logistics. Sustainability 🌱 Longer lifespan: Plastic pallets have a longer expected lifespan than wooden pallets, reducing the need for frequent replacements which saves resources. 🌱 Recycled materials: Plastic pallets can be made from 100% recycled materials, unlike wooden pallets which are made largely from virgin materials, contributing to deforestation and habitat loss. Reduced emissions 🚛 Lighter weight: Plastic pallets are lighter than wooden pallets, resulting in lower fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions during transport. 🚛Increased range for electric vehicles: The lighter weight allows electric vehicles to travel further, including the option of loading more goods per truck. Efficient transport and storage 📦Nestable options: Plastic pallets can be nestable, drastically reducing the amount of air transported and optimizing transport efficiency. 📦Space saving: Plastic pallets take up less space in warehouses, stores, and during transport, improving overall operational efficiency. Circular Economy 🔄 Closed-loop system: Plastic pallets can be part of a fully closed-loop system, meaning they can be recycled and reused without generating waste. 🔄 Zero waste: By using recycled materials and implementing a circular system, we can achieve zero waste from this packaging item. Improved health, safety, and hygiene 📈 Improved HSE: Plastic pallets are much lighter, helping reducing the risk of injuries from manual handling for employees. 📈 Increased hygiene: Plastic pallets are easier to clean and maintain, offering better hygiene than wooden pallets, especially in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Future-oriented design 🌍 Eco-design: Plastic pallets are designed with the environment in mind, and their lightweight and durable construction meets new and upcoming EU regulations for packaging and plastic materials. 🌍 Data-driven: Plastic pallets include room for more data collection, with RFID or IoT solutions to provide more insights into their use and climate. Together we can make a difference while still optimizing operations. Hvordan redusere engangsemballasje? #Bærekraft #SirkulærØkonomi #engangsemballasje #SUP #PPWR #Gjenbruk #singleuse Sverre Gulliksen Lene Kvale Tora Tokvam Drægni Trym Nord Kristina Dypvik Skants Cecilie Ova Nielsen

Transitioning from linear to circular systems: A path towards sustainability Transitioning from a linear to a circular economy concerning plastic waste involves a holistic approach that rethinks the entire lifecycle of plastics. AION tries navigate the main differences between what is a linear vs a circular economy and the key characteristics each includes. ➡ So what is a linear economy? ➡ In a linear economy, the traditional model of production and consumption follows a "take-make-dispose" pattern: 🔹Extraction: Resources are extracted from the earth to manufacture products. 🔹Production: These resources are transformed into products through manufacturing processes. 🔹Consumption: Products are consumed by end-users. 🔹Disposal: At the end of their life cycle, products are discarded as waste, often ending up in landfills or incinerated. Key characteristics of a linear economy: ◾Resource depletion: Constant extraction of natural resources. ◾Waste generation: Products are designed for disposal, leading to high levels of waste and pollution. ◾Limited recycling: Low recycling rates, with only a fraction of materials being recovered and reused. 🔄 And what is a circular economy? 🔄 A circular economy aims to decouple economic growth from resource consumption by promoting a regenerative and restorative approach to production and consumption: 🔹Design for longevity: Products are designed to last longer, with an emphasis on durability, repairability, and reusability. 🔹Resource efficiency: Resources are used more efficiently throughout their life cycle, with a focus on reducing waste and maximizing value. 🔹Reuse and recycling: Materials are reused, repaired, or recycled at the end of their life cycle to create new products or regenerate natural systems. 🔹Closed-loop systems: Circular economy principles aim to create closed-loop systems where materials are continuously kept within the loop, minimizing the need for virgin resource extraction. Key characteristics of a circular economy: ◾Resource preservation: Keeping resources in use for as long as possible and recovering materials at the end of their life cycle. ◾Waste reduction: Minimizing waste generation through design strategies that prioritize reuse, repair, and recycling. ◾Economic opportunities: Promoting innovation, job creation, and sustainable business models.
