First innovation class of 2024 💡 This August, 15 participants from different countries met in Copenhagen, for a three-day Innovation Class focusing on the future of living and eating, taking a step back from the traditional value chain to foster a more open, creative mindset. The participants were introduced to several innovation tools and learned how to apply them. In addition to various workshops, the group also visited BLOXHUB, a Nordic hub for sustainable urbanization. – BLOXHUB fosters a dynamic ecosystem of startups, entrepreneurs, and established companies. New technology and digitization in the aquaculture segment contribute to more sustainable production of quality seafood 🐟 The video shows how, by using new technology in our fish cages, we will protect the salmon from lice and thus reduce the pressure of lice in the areas where we roll out this type of technology. Happy birthday, Ocean Forest 💚 This year marks 10 years since Lerøy and Bellona started Ocean Forest, based on a shared vision of increasing food production from the sea in a sustainable way by also harvesting at a lower level in the food chain. The anniversary was celebrated this week at Arendalsuka, with a menu consisting of sea urchin, kelp soup, kelp burger, kelp beer and, of course, birthday cake. One can save approximately 8,2 kg co2 eq per kg of meat by replacing 25% of the minced meat with kelp, according to the Norwegian Seaweed Association. The kelp also adds fiber and umami flavor. – I am very happy that Lerøy dared to invest in kelp production, says Joakim Hauge in Bellona. Harald Sveier, head of Ocean Forest, is very pleased with the cooperation with Bellona. – Fortunately, Lerøy has made a long-term investment in this and has ambitious targets for increased production in the future. We greatly appreciate the collaboration with Bellona. Arendalsuka is a democratic meeting place, that takes place in the south of Norway every year. Optimistic about the future and the exciting times ahead 🐟 125 years ago, Ole Mikkel Lerøen started selling fish straight from his open wooden boat at Bergen's famous fish market. Now, Lerøy is one of the largest seafood companies in the world. CEO Henning Beltestad is optimistic about the future. – We learned more in 2023 than we have ever done before.
