Meet Vlad! ✨
He is our Chief Geophysicist, and our colleague from the very beginning of Lime almost 12 years ago. This is his story about how he got into geophysics, and how his career brought him to Lime:
I studied geophysics at the Leningrad Mining Institute. But the study required a broad and deep education, which included basic subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and specialized ones - geological and geophysical. In my third year of study, I especially liked the course “Linear Systems and Signals.”
Exactly this course determined my professional career which started with borehole seismic processing (VSP) and expanded to 3D seismic acquisition, in-house and full on-board processing, and finally having reached seismic interpretation.
Even as a teenager, I didn’t know that I would be a geophysicist, but I already for sure knew that my work would be related to geology.
At the age of 12, I read the story “Territory” by geologist Oleg Kuvaev, about the search for gold, and since then I have been infected with the romance of new lands, discoveries and achieving goals.
And for thirty-three years after graduating from the institute, I have worked as a geophysical Sherpa in geology, working in more than thirty countries and on all continents, even in Antarctica.
One of the previous companies I worked for was Bergen Oilfield Services (BOS), whose investors and invited me to Lime, where in twelve years I went from processing and AVO geophysicist to Chief geophysicist.
So, my entire adult life is related to geology and geophysics, and even my wife is a geophysicist, and my son is a geologist. But besides geology and geophysics, we also enjoy snorkeling, and I still love literature.
Lastly, we asked Vlad if he has any advice for his current and future colleagues, and this was his answer: Have a dream and follow your dream.
