Refill solutions are a game-changer in the fight against packaging waste, and we wanted to know how you're incorporating them into your daily life. Here’s what we found out from our recent poll. 💡 ✨ 53% of you choose refill-at-home packaging whenever it’s available!️ This circular option not only reduces waste but also often cuts down on the environmental impact of production and transport. ✨ 30% use refill packaging sometimes – a flexible approach that still contributes positively to circularity. ✨ 17% don’t see refill-at-home packaging as an option yet. We hear you! More widespread availability and options are key to making this a mainstream choice. Why refill matters: Refill-at-home systems help to minimize single-use packaging by allowing you to use the same container multiple times. This means less waste going to landfills and a reduction in the resources needed to produce new packaging. New partnership with Henkel to optimize packaging for recycling 🤝 By installing an AUTOSORT™ detection system in their test laboratory, the manufacturer of globally recognized brands such as #Schwarzkopf, #Persil, and #Pritt can now test their packaging before its market launch. This ensures their products have the right properties for easy sorting and recycling after disposal. 💡 Recognizing the important role product manufacturers play in the success of recycling, we’re sharing our expertise and working hand-in-hand with brand owners like Henkel to make a positive impact. Dr. Volker Rehrmann, EVP and Head of TOMRA Recycling, says it best: ‘A functioning circular economy is only possible if everyone involved in the value chain works together. That’s why collaborations like the one with Henkel are so important." Last week, the European Commission flagged all 27 EU Member States for not hitting waste collection and recycling targets. 🌍♻️ Countries like Denmark, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, and many others have fallen short on municipal waste recycling, packaging recycling, and electronic waste management. But here's the good news: we already have the solutions to turn this around! 🚀 TOMRA recommends the quick implementation of proven waste management solutions like high-performing deposit return systems, which ensure recovery rates exceeding 90% to reduce litter and increase collection rates, advanced mechanical recycling coupled with mixed waste sorting to ensure high-quality material for recycling purposes. We also promote reuse initiatives to minimize single-use plastics and encourage a circular economy. So, what's holding us back? Check out our holistic approach to waste management and the various solutions we champion 👉 https://lnkd.in/d_EZRDQ5 #EUtargets #CircularEconomy #DepositReturnSystems #Reuse #MixedWasteSorting #AdvancedMechanicalRecycling #ReduceReuseRecycle #TOMRA

We have two exciting highlights to share about our #Reuse project in #Aarhus! 🌟 First, we’ve partnered with NORMAL A/S to introduce new iced latte cups as part of our initiative to reduce single-use waste. Second, we’re close to hitting a major milestone: 400,000 reusable cups distributed since January 2024! Reuse is a foundational element of a circular economy, where all products and packaging are kept in circulation for as long as possible. A big thank you to everyone who is supporting this system. Let’s keep the momentum going! 🚀 Want to learn more about our Reuse system? https://lnkd.in/dnr-VuK2

Can advanced sorting contribute to plastic circularity in Europe? Find out in our new report with Eunomia Research & Consulting! 💡 In the face of increasing sustainability demands and upcoming EU regulations, this report examines the potential of object recognition technology to improve recycling efficiency and circularity. It offers a thoughtful analysis of how these innovations can address current challenges and their role in meeting future sustainability goals. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/duUX4pt9 The big picture: 🌍 The plastic packaging industry faces growing demands for sustainability, driven by public and governmental pressures, and upcoming EU regulations like the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (#PPWR) expected in late 2024. 🌍 This report covers the EU, Norway, Switzerland, and the UK, highlighting the potential of object recognition to significantly impact circularity in certain plastic formats. Key insights: 🔍 For many plastic packaging types, optimizing existing sorting technologies is sufficient for improved circularity. 🔍 Where challenges exist, object recognition technology is likely the most cost-effective advanced sorting solution compared to marker technology. 🔍 The industry and policymakers need to consider if marker technologies provide enough additional benefits to justify their cost and complexity. Read the report and let us know what you think! https://lnkd.in/duUX4pt9 #Plastic #Recycling #CircularEconomy #AdvancedSorting #TOMRA
