When global leaders gather to discuss solutions, progress happens. 🌍 This week, our CEO, Tove Andersen, attended a dinner in Seoul, hosted by the Norwegian Ambassador to South Korea, Anne Kari Hansen Ovind. Together with the Vice Governor of Jeju Island, Myong Kee Jin, they discussed Norwegian-Korean collaboration on resource circularity and the global plastics treaty. 🤝 At TOMRA, we strongly support this treaty, advocating for a holistic approach that addresses both reducing plastic production and improving waste management solutions like collection and recycling. Want to learn more? Read our recommendations for the treaty and discover how we can create circular solutions for a world free from plastic pollution. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dsxPnh5c #TOMRA #CircularEconomy #GlobalPlasticsTreaty #ResourceCircularity #WasteManagement #Recycling

We’ve taught our machines to see like human eyes, and it’s revolutionizing the recycling industry. 💡 How do you recognize if a packaging has been in contact with food? As a human being, you can use your eyes to look for context, as well as shape or size of the packaging. A pizza carton, for example, has a distinct and memorable design, making it easy for us to identify and sort it out of a waste stream. But to achieve efficient automation in recycling facilities, we need machines to do the same. That’s why we have trained our AI-powered technology GAINnext™, using millions of images, providing context to each of them. That’s the idea behind deep learning. With this ability, we can now automate sorting tasks that once required manual effort, enabling recyclers to process larger quantities of materials quickly and efficiently. Learn more about the future of deep learning for the recycling industry in the expert article by Dr. Volker Rehrmann, EVP and Head of TOMRA Recycling 👉 https://lnkd.in/gJZNzbdz #DeepLearning #WasteIntoValue #Sustainability #Recycling #Innovation #AISorting #WasteIntelligence #AI

🔦 Exploring cost-effective sorting solutions for recycling We're happy to share insights from the latest report by Eunomia Research & Consulting! Three advanced sorting technologies were evaluated to determine the most cost-effective option: Object Recognition (OR), Digital Markers, and Chemical Markers. The findings show: 💡 Object Recognition (OR) is the most economical technology for both HDPE and PP rigids, outperforming marker technologies in both high and low-cost scenarios. 💡 The key cost drivers are licensing cost, paid to print the relevant marker technology. OR systems, while possibly requiring a subscription to access databases, avoid these printing expenses. ↪ This makes OR the lowest cost solution per tonne of material sorted with similar sorting effectiveness in all three technologies.
