Lots of exciting things are happening at Zeabuz these days. We’d like to share yet another accomplishment made together with DNV this summer. 🏆 On June 7th, 2024, DNV successfully conducted the first-ever remote simulation-based testing of a Zeabuz autonomy system, a significant milestone in the SIMPLEX project. The test was carried out using a remote connection between DNV’s Simulation Trust Centre (STC) and the Zeabuz Test System, paving the way for future efficient and independent third-party testing of Zeabuz’s autonomy solutions. SIMPLEX is an R&D project led by DNV, with Zeabuz as industry partner and Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU) as research partner, co-funded by the Norges forskningsråd. Successful demonstration of a remotely supervised autonomous operation 🦾 On Friday, Zeabuz conducted a successful demonstration of an autonomous vessel supervised and controlled from a Remote Operation Center. During the demonstration, MF Estelle in Stockholm was controlled from our Remote Operation Center located 700 km away in Trondheim. The test involved a full autonomous crossing over Riddarfjärden, including a precise manual speed override, all conducted by an operator situated at the Remote Operation Center. The ROC features a replica of the bridge system and operator interface onboard MF Estelle, also including live camera feeds that provide a full 360° view of the vessel’s surroundings. The real-time control and monitoring of the ferry is enabled by advanced 5G network and IoT technology. Invited passengers got to experience as the remote operator requested permission to take control of the vessel, before initiating an autonomous crossing. Mid-crossing, the remote operator also conducted a test of the manual speed override function. Swedish Transport Agency, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Ports of Stockholm, Tele2, Torghatten. Onboard MF Estelle, ZEAM Operators Carl Petersson, Erik Nilsson and Adam Kleist Brenna oversaw the crossing locally, ready to intervene if necessary. The communication between the vessel and the ROC was conducted using a method where all requests from the remote operator were acknowledged and confirmed by the local operator, ensuring that control was maintained at all times. Lead Developer Human Machine Teaming, Levi Jamt was the Remote Operator who conducted the crossing from Trondheim. «I really enjoyed conducting the demo. The 360° cameras give a feeling of being onboard the vessel. I found myself wanting to interact with the passengers and welcome them onboard as they stepped onto the vessel. We have built the system to be reliable, and I had full confidence in its performance knowing it is designed to automatically enter a secure state if anything were to happen. The experience was both fun and reassuring, and I look forward to continuing the development of the ROC concept together with the team.» Levi Jamt was joined by Reidun Svarva, Jan-Egil Wagnild and Anders Rimehaug from Torghatten, a representative from Sjøfartsdirektoratet, and Zeabuz management. The ROC concept is a critical component of scaling and operating an autonomous maritime fleet. It enables a wider range of applications for maritime autonomy. This demonstration not only presents the progress of our technology, but marks an important milestone on the path towards remote operations. ⚡️🛥️ #maritimeautonomy #autonomousferry #autonomousship #situationalawareness #selfdriving #remotecontrol #urbanwaterways #urbanmobility #mfestelle #zeam Erik Dyrkoren Oyvind Smogeli Carl Johansson Henrik Stray Laurence Frémion-Pitras

Groundbreaking innovation is coming to Norway! 🏆 We are proud to announce that we have signed an LOI to take the step together with Haugesund kommune. The autonomous city ferry is scheduled to begin operation and testing of technology in fall 2025. The ferry will be powered by Zeabuz Autonomy Solutions and connect three key locations in the Haugesund area, serving as a national pilot for autonomous zero-emission city ferries. 🇳🇴 Over two years following the launch, the ferry is planned to gradually introduce self-driving capabilities, reducing the workload for crew and enhancing operational efficiency. The ferry will connect Haugesund Center, Risøy, and Vibrandsøy, and is expected to promote local development, business, and tourism. A great thanks to wonderful partners and the strong consortium already onboard the project. Exciting times! #maritimeautonomy #autonomousferry #autonomouscityferry #passengerferry #urbanwaterways #haugesund #norway
