NOPD Announces Arrest of Suspect in Homicide Investigation

Today (August 16, 2024), the NOPD announced the arrest of Erick Garrison (black male, DOB: 03-28-1993) in its investigation of a homicide that occurred on August 3, 2024, in the 3100 block of Saint Roch Avenue.

At about 12:46 a.m. on August 3, NOPD Third District officers were dispatched in response to a call of a shot person at the location. Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying in the neutral ground and having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. EMS arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

On August 6, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 32-year-old Brandon Hayward and determined preliminary cause of death to be from gunshot-related injuries.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Section detectives developed and positively identified Garrison as the perpetrator in this incident. On August 15, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Garrison on one count of second-degree murder.

NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad detectives, along with the U. S. Marshals NOLA Task Force conducted a fugitive investigation and determined that Garrison was in the Dallas, Texas area. Through a collaborative effort with the U.S. Marshals Dallas Task Force, Garrison was located and arrested there. He is currently being held as a fugitive.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
