VAGRANT GUILTY IN TOURIST SHOOTING

A homeless mental patient who opened fire last year on a crowd of tourists on the Avenue of the Americas pleaded guilty yesterday to attempted murder.

John Palmer, 58, wounded a Florida woman in the leg when he pulled a .380 semiautomatic handgun from his pocket last June during an argument with another homeless man on the avenue between West 55th and 56th streets.

Palmer fired five shots – sending dozens of people scrambling for safety – before a pair of cops tackled him. They found 26 more bullets in his pocket.

He faces up to 20 years in jail after sentencing on April 9.

“I come to New York and look what happens,” the injured woman, Pamela Turk, 41, of Boca Raton, was overheard saying as she waited for paramedics.
