‘TRUNK’ CALL FREES CABBY TRAPPED BY THUGS

A quick-thinking cabby who was thrown into the trunk of his car by two armed robbers in Manhattan early yesterday used his cell phone to call cops — who were able to free him in minutes, police said.

Afzal Nawaz, 31, picked up two men and a woman at East 25th Street and Third Avenue around midnight Monday and drove them to Inwood, where the woman got out.

The two men held Nawaz up at gunpoint.

“Where’s your money?” one suspect asked Nawaz as the trio patted him down.

“I said, ‘Here’s my money,'” Nawaz recalled.

“Money is not important,” Nawaz told The Post. “Life is important.”

After Nawaz handed over about $245, the men put him in the trunk of his cab and fled.

Nawaz called 911, and while he wasn’t exactly sure what street he was on, he was able to tell the dispatcher how he got to the spot. Police found the cab in about five minutes and freed Nawaz from the trunk — but not from some new fears.

“[The suspects] told me: ‘We have your hack number. We will find you, and we kill you,'” said Nawaz. “I am worried about that.”
