MCVEIGH LETTER DISMISSES DOE NO. 2

Timothy McVeigh told a Texas newspaper there never was a “John Doe No. 2” who helped him blow up the Oklahoma City federal building, it was revealed yesterday.

Many of the 3,100 documents the FBI belatedly turned over to McVeigh’s lawyers – prompting him to consider an appeal of his death sentence – address the agency’s initial search for the supposed accomplice code-named “John Doe No. 2.”

But McVeigh told the Houston Chronicle in a letter earlier this month that the “John Doe No. 2” theory “has been thoroughly discredited,” and called it an “outlandish claim.”

Within days after the 1995 bombing, the FBI determined that McVeigh was helped by no one but Terry Nichols, who is serving life in prison.
