TEARS FLOW FOR QUEEN MOTHER

The mighty and the meek alike paid tribute yesterday to Britain’s Queen Mother – remembering her as a “pillar of strength and inspiration.”

Accolades poured in from around the world for the 101-year-old royal – affectionately called the Queen Mum – who died Saturday morning.

World leaders were effusive in their praise of the indomitable matriarch.

“She was a pillar of strength and inspiration to many people all over the world,” said President Bush.

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the Queen Mum’s role in boosting British morale as the nation stood alone against the evil juggernaut of Nazi Germany.

As wife of then-King George VI, the queen was acclaimed for her morale-boosting efforts as Nazi warplanes pounded London during the darkest days of World War II.

A bouquet outside St. James’ Palace, London, carried the message: “Queen of queens, rest in peace.” Thousands of well-wishers also lined up at royal palaces, British embassies and consulates to sign books of condolence.

New Yorkers wishing to sign a book of condolences may do so today at the British Consulate, located at 845 Third Ave. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
