FAME GAME GETS SCARE

CANTON, Ohio – There was a frightening and sobering moment in last night’s Hall of Fame Game. With 12:24 left in the second quarter of the preseason contest between the Giants and Texans at Fawcett Stadium, Leomont Evans, a fifth-year safety from Clemson, was carted off the field on a stretcher.

Evans was injured in punt coverage when he lowered his head and slammed his helmet into the chest of Sean Bennett while rushing Giants punter Rodney Williams.

Doctors called the injury a spinal cord contusion.

Evans lost feeling in his arms and legs, according to a Texans spokesman. He was transferred from the field to Aultman Hospital.

Results of an MRI and CAT scan to determine the extent of his injury were normal. Later in the evening, Evans was said to have started to regain feeling in his upper body and both his legs.
