Frustrated city cops plan to hold a rally in Times Square on Thursday to draw attention to their long-running battle for a pay hike – and they’re asking New Yorkers to come and show their support.
The Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association voted last night to hold the noon rally. City cops have been without a contract since June 2000.
The vote came just hours after Mayor Bloomberg said he didn’t think it was feasible to use federal emergency money for the raise.
“A one-time shot of money doesn’t help us,” he said, noting that the city needs “a long-term source of revenue . . . to pay our [municipal workers] year in and year out.”
PBA members have been talking about a Sept. 11 walkout if they don’t get a satisfactory raise.
