DICE WON’T RUSH HIS RETURN

KNICK NOTES

Antonio McDyess believes the chances of making his Knicks’ debut this weekend are slim. Instead, Dice admitted next week’s game on Thanksgiving Eve vs. Latrell Sprewell’s Timberwolves could serve as his debut.

“That would be exciting,” said McDyess, whose biggest regret last season was not being able to play alongside the fellow Alabama alum.

Today McDyess will know a lot more. For the first time, McDyess will participate in a full scrimmage. Last week, he participated in two “controlled scrimmages” in which Don Chaney blew the whistle every other possession.

Chaney said he thinks Dice may need “at least two to three” full scrimmages but wouldn’t completely rule out a return Friday in Detroit. “I haven’t done it so long, I really don’t know what to expect,” McDyess said. “I think it’s going to be great for me.”

“Three [more] practices would make him comfortable on the court and confident in what we’re doing,” Chaney said.

The Knicks practice just twice before Friday. If it’s deemed he needs a third practice, Dice won’t suit up until Minnesota at the earliest.

Asked about the weekend set being too soon, Dice said, “Yeah, I definitely think so. I don’t want to be almost ready. I want it to be definite when I step on the court, 100 percent. That little bit percent that’s not ready, you can get hurt.”

Cablevision announced the appointment of Hank Ratner as vice chairman of the Garden. Ratner will be involved in Knick affairs.

If Doc Rivers is indeed fired in Orlando, Chaney has to be a little worried if the Knicks don’t make the playoffs. Remember, James Dolan said he “expects” to make the playoffs and said he’s given Chaney “the resources” to win.
