HONORS STUDENT, 12, SHOT

A 12-year-old honors student was hit in the knee by a stray bullet outside her Brooklyn home while walking with her grandmother early yesterday, police and relatives said.

Quanmera Sanders, 12, left her 86th Street apartment with her grandmother Judith Holmes at around 1:20 a.m.

The youngster’s family was having a party and they decided she’d spend the night with her grandmother. As they left, they heard gunshots ring out.

The pair quickly ducked back into the girl’s building, part of the Marlboro housing project in Bensonhurst.

Once inside the Sanders’ first-floor home, Quanmera realized her right leg had been hit by a stray bullet.

“She looked down and said, ‘Oh, my God, I’m bleeding!’ and everyone started screaming, ‘Quanmera has been shot, Quanmera has been shot,'” Holmes, 62, said.

A cousin, LaToya Lambert, 23, dialed 911, and Quanmera was taken to Lutheran Medical Center, in stable condition.

A 15-year-old boy, who was aiming at someone he’d been fighting with, was arrested last night, police said. Charges were pending against the teen, whose name was not released because of his age.

Relatives said Quanmera is a sixth-grade honors student at Joseph B. Cavallaro Middle School, and loves drawing and listening to rap music.

“Her teacher said to me she would love to have more [students like] Quanmera in her classes,” Holmes said.
