THE TRUTH IS, WE’RE ALL LIARS

Americans are honest about one thing – they lie, cheat and steal every now and then.

Folks admit switching price tags, cheating on taxes and even blaming innocent co-workers when something goes wrong at the office.

The truth about dishonesty emerged after Reader’s Digest asked its readers if they’d ever engaged in any of 13 forms of lying, cheating and stealing. On average, people confessed to five forms. The most popular deceits, at 71 percent, were ignoring the speed limit and lying to friends or relatives to protect their feelings.

Sixty-three percent admitted faking illness for a sick day. The same number also takes office supplies for personal use.
