BX. BLAZE KILLS MOM AS 3 FLEE

A Bronx mother died in a fire early yesterday after she came home from a night out, began to make herself a meal, then passed out in the bathroom with her cooking still on the stove, authorities said.

The woman’s 4-year-old son, her older sister and 9-year-old niece survived the blaze after the girl woke to see the kitchen in flames and alerted her mother.

Delia Vasquez, 24, was in cardiac arrest when firefighters discovered her. She died soon after from smoke inhalation. No one had realized that she was in the house, a FDNY official said.

The blaze, blamed by fire marshals on “cooking carelessness,” began shortly after 6 a.m. at 1145 Morris Ave., where Vasquez’s sister, Evella Ayvar, 44, lived with her daughter, Leslie, 9.

Vasquez had left her son Brian, 4, with Ayvar before going out, authorities said.

During the escape from the fourth-floor apartment, Leslie fell from a fire escape, breaking her leg and cutting her chin.

Her mother suffered smoke inhalation and the two were taken to Jacobi Hospital, where they were in stable condition.

Brian, who was unharmed, was sent to his grandmother’s house, officials said.

Sixty firefighters spent just under an hour putting the fire out.
