CURRY PUTS HEAT ON ALZHEIMER’S

If you want to protect against Alzheimer’s disease, better get some curry in a hurry.

A new study reveals that hot curries can prevent the deterioration of the brain and help prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s.

Scientists at New York Medical College and the University of Catania in Italy made the discovery as they looked at the health benefits of curcumin, which is found in most Indian foods.

In their tests on rats, the researchers learned that curcumin induces an enzyme called hemeoxygenase that acts as a defense mechanism against “free radicals” – which are known to damage DNA, triggering diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

India, which produces and consumes most of the world’s curry, has much lower rates of Alzheimer’s among the elderly than Western countries.
