END ZONE ; ‘BACHELOR’ ROMANCE IS OVER

‘BACHELOR” quarterback Jesse Palmer has been – all together now – sacked by Jessica Bowlin, the woman he chose on ABC’s popular reality show.

The couple split soon after the final rose ceremony, deciding to “mutually” end their relationship, according to “Extra,” which broke the news yesterday.

“Jessica and I shared an incredible, romantic journey on the show that began with a friendship that remains strong today,” Palmer said in a statement.

“We simply realized that, individually, our next steps take us in different directions.”

Palmer is a backup quarterback for the Giants, but his status with the team is in jeopardy. Bowlin is a law-school student.

“With too much distance and too little time, these were not ideal circumstances in which to start a relationship,” Bowlin said in a statement released by “Extra.”

“Jesse is a great guy and has a wonderful family. Who knows what the future holds?”

Bowlin, who’s from California, says she will concentrate on finishing law school.

Palmer will continue to fight to keep his job with the Giants, who’ve signed Eli Manning, Kurt Warner and Ryan Van Dyke as quarterbacks all vying for a job.

Palmer chose Bowlin after winnowing down the original 25 “Bachelor” women to Bowlin and Tara Huckeby – who didn’t take it well when Palmer broke the news to her that she wasn’t “the one.”

Palmer had the chance to present Bowlin with a 3.6-carat $75,000 diamond engagement ring, but he chose instead to eschew the ring – asking Jessica to be by his side to “chase all your dreams” before giving her a one-way plane ticket to New York.

But Bowlin decided to stay in California and not relocate to the East Coast – which likely put an immediate crimp in the relationship.

Of all the “Bachelor” romances, only one – Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter – has resulted in marriage. ABC paid for their marriage, which aired on ABC in prime time last fall.

Both “Extra” and “The Bachelor” are produced by Telepictures, a division of Warner Bros.
