DEAD BODY FOUND ON CHURCH ROOF

The body of a man in his 30s – possibly a murder victim – was found by construction workers on the roof of an Upper West Side church yesterday afternoon, police said.

The partially decomposed body of the man, whose name had not been released by yesterday evening, was found wedged between the roof and the parapet wall of the Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew on West 86th Street.

Only his head and shoulders were visible.

A police source said an initial investigation of the scene has led cops to suspect foul play.

There was a large amount of blood and the body appeared to have been struck.

The corpse was badly bloated from decay and covered in maggots, the source said.

The body is believed to be that of a man reported missing last week.

“It must be him,” said a church worker. “He hadn’t come in for work for almost a week.”

Workers had been renovating the roof and the basement of the church, a United Methodist institution that is more than 100 years old.
