SHEFF HAS NO SHOT

CLEVELAND – Since the pain in Gary Sheffield’s left shoulder is subsiding a bit, the Yankees’ MVP has canceled plans to get a cortisone shot Monday. Last week in Minnesota Sheffield said he was going to take two spikes in the shoulder this past Friday but didn’t.

Sheffield was told by Dr. Frank Jobe last week the shot wouldn’t make a difference and Sheffield is listening to the noted orthopedic surgeon, who looked at the MRI of Sheffield’s shoulder last week.

“I am not in the pain like I was before when laying on the couch hurt,” said Sheffield, who continues to take medication for the bursitis and torn muscle. “I couldn’t deal with that. I couldn’t even play with my kids. I felt in Minnesota it was necessary to get a shot but when I got home I felt a little better.”
