TAXING PROBLEM – WHO WILL BE LIABLE FOR THE COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE TAX?

* Only for-profit organizations that pay more than $250k in annual rent are subject to the tax. Non-profits do not pay the CRT.

* Under the 2005 Incentive Plan, businesses that sign direct leases of five years or more south of Canal Street are exempt from the CRT for five years. The tax is permanently eliminated for all retailers south of Murray Street.

* Buildings directly on the World Trade Center site including the replacement for the Deutsche Bank Building at 130 Liberty Street and 7 World Trade Center (right) tenants are also permanently exempt from the CRT.
