HOSP PEACE REMAINS STABLE

The truce between Gov. Spitzer and the powerful health-care lobby held yesterday, with the governor noticeably tamping down his criticisms of the hospitals and a union.

Both sides yanked ads attacking each other over Spitzer’s proposed $1.2 billion in health-care cuts.

Spitzer went out of his way to avoid attacking the Greater New York Hospital Association or the 1199 Service Employees International Union during a Capitol press conference yesterday.

The Rev. Al Sharpton called Spitzer’s proposed cuts “devastating” and decried the governor’s “macho politics” with people who are vulnerable and questioned why the governor hasn’t directly talked to union leaders.

Sharpton is scheduled to meet with Spitzer this morning to discuss the proposed cuts along with other issues, Spitzer spokeswoman Christine Anderson said.
