ALDS QUICK THOUGHTS

Quick thoughts from the ALDS before a first pitch:

1. Could this week be going any worse for the Mets? Now Kaz Matsui is a playoff star? And the Phillies can’t win in October after all that damage on the Mets in September?

2. It was interesting. The Yankee coaches and extra players were not called to the base line before the game and I might have missed it, but it didn’t sound as if they even called Joe Torre’s name, though Torre went out to the first-base line anyway. The Indian extras and coaches were called out to the line. Also, for the first playoff game at Jacobs Field since 2001, there was surprisingly little passion in the booing of the Yankees. Perhaps I spend too much time at Fenway Park for Yankee-Red Sox games.

3. He will almost certainly not make the Hall of Fame and he is not known as a great guy around the game, but Kenny Lofton sure has had an impressive career, nearly 2,500 hits, a .299 career average, 622 career steals and a penchant for being on teams that get into October.
