‘SAW’ IN OUT-GROSS OF RIVALS

Vampire fangs couldn’t match the teeth of “Saw IV” at the weekend box office.

The latest saga in the torture series had the best horror opening of the year with $32.1 million, according to studio estimates released yesterday.

“It came, it ‘saw,’ it sliced up the box office again,” said Jeff Bock, an analyst with Exhibitor Relations.

“It’s becoming a holiday tradition – bobbing for apples, trick-or-treating and watching people get tortured by [villain] Jigsaw.”

Meanwhile, the Steve Carell dramedy, “Dan in Real Life,” debuted in second place with $12.1 million.

The film opened in fewer than 2,000 theaters, and is expected “to play well into the holiday season” as it expands onto more screens, said Bock.

The vampire chiller “30 Days of Night” dropped from first place to third, with a $6.7 million chomp.

“The Game Plan” came in fourth with $6.3 million. “Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married” followed with $5.7 million.
