Drought is a serious problem in Woodstock, Ga. – but its weekend rain festival wasn’t the solution.

There was no rain and not many people.

“Not much of a turnout,” lamented one landscaper, who blamed the competition. “There’s a lot of festivals going on elsewhere – the Ellijay Apple Festival, the pumpkin patches, haunted houses, Cagle Dairy’s Corn Maize Festival,” she said.

The first international film award ceremony for dogs was held at the London Film Festival yesterday.

The big winners of the Fidos were Poppy, Anna, Oliver and Megan, the four corgis who starred with Helen Mirren in “The Queen.”

“I know one should avoid acting with animals and children, but these little chaps were a pleasure to work with and deserve all the plaudits for their fine performances,” Mirren said.

Debate is raging over whether an animal snapped in a recent photo is a baby Bigfoot – or just a bear who needs a dermatologist.

Rick Jacobs set up a camera with an automatic trigger in the Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania and shot a furry animal that walks on all fours.

“In my opinion, it appears to be a juvenile Sasquatch,” said Paul Majeta of the Bigfoot Research Organization.

But Pennsylvania Game Commission spokesman Jerry Feaser told a local newspaper: “There is no question it is a bear with a severe case of mange.”

Scientists say a clam plucked alive from an Icelandic seabed last year was the longest-living animal on record.

Sadly, Ming the mollusk, who scientists believe lived 405 years, died before it could claim its celebrity status.

A 19-year-old girl released from a youth detention center in Germany last week took a souvenir with her – a fellow prisoner she carried in her suitcase.

Both women were still being sought by police yesterday.

The 19-year-old served two weeks for fraud. The other prisoner, 18, had 10 days left on her month-long theft sentence.
