President Obama will name former New York City Health Commissioner Margaret Hamburg to lead the Food and Drug Administration.
Hamburg was commissioner during the early 1990s under Mayor David Dinkins. As the city’s top health official, she designed a program that cut high rates of drug-resistant tuberculosis and supported needle-exchange to cut the spread of AIDS.
She also was assistant health secretary during the Clinton administration.
