There are issues involved with the Knicks getting into position to make a play for Ricky Rubio, contractual issues, issues involving differences of opinion, issues involving the reality that any deal the Knicks make simply cannot hamstring them for next summer since they’ve clearly stated that is where all their eggs like.

But is is worthwhile to dream, and to hope, because having Rubio on display for 41 games next year won’t only make the march toward LeBron Liberation Day in 53 weeks a less soul-crushing experience, you would have to think that Rubio’s presence here would also make the Knicks at least a little more attractive destination spot for LeBron, too.

And while you’re daydreaming, watch this another few hundred times.

Obviously, even the most ardent Jose Reyes critic must admit the Mets are a better every-day team when he is in the lineup every day than when Alex Cora is. But Cora has clearly and quickly emerged as a winning ballplayer, the kind no team can ever have enough of, one that’s especially vital during stretches like this one with the Mets when the need every ounce of emotional leadership they can muster. Last night’s performance was simply the latest example.

As inspiring as the love affair is between New York and Phil Mickelson, you do wonder how many of these fades he’ll be able to turn in before he starts hearing the flip side of that New York passion about which he speaks so fondly.

Today’s a good day to remember just how warm you were feeling 15 years ago, in the afterglow of the Rangers’ wondrous run to the Cup, when Brian Leetch officially becomes what we always knew he’d be: a Hall of Famer.
